William Wellman, Ernie Pyle and "The Story of G.I. Joe" (repost)

In 1944, war correspondent Ernie Pyle and producer Jerome Cowan approached director William Wellman to direct The Story of G.I. Joe, a screen adaptation of Pyle's books Here Is Your War and Brave Men. At first, Wellman refused. This is the story of what changed his mind.

In this episode, I mistakenly referred to producer Lester Cowan as "Jerome."
